Rules of Open Play
The WCPC manages Open Play daily from court opening until 1:00 p.m. All members and nonmembers are welcome to Open Play.
Be friendly to newcomers and welcome them to Rudgear and into your foursome.
Write your name legibly on the whiteboard, and ensure your name only appears in only one square.
Listen attentively for your name to be called and monitor the board frequently.
Make an effort to fill in open slots before starting a new square. Do not skip over a square with fewer than four players unless everyone listed agrees to it.
Try and mix it up and play with different people rather than sticking with the same group.
Play one game to eleven points and rotate off; this applies to both singles and doubles.
Players already participating in a game should not have their names listed on the board.
Pickleball Etiquette
Adhering to these guidelines promotes fairness, good sportsmanship, and a positive experience for everyone.
Meet new friends and play with less skilled players.
Announce all three numbers of the score before you serve the ball.
Kindly hand or direct a stray ball back to the appropriate court.
Paddle tap at the end of the game and acknowledge your opponents and teammate.
Call 'ball on' when your ball rolls onto an adjoining court.
Wait until the point is over, before retrieving your ball from an adjoining court.
If you are unsure of a line call, give your opponents the benefit of the doubt and call it in their favor.
Try and even up teams so that games aren't one sided.
Hit to the stronger player to improve your own skills.
Keep warm-ups to five minutes or less.
Return balls to the bucket after your game is over.
